Universal Friction Tester (UFT)
Static and dynamic friction coefficient tester
Friction tests are used in the packaging industry to measure the sliding resistance of a product in order to predict the feed and movement speed in an automatic gluing, assembly, filling or packaging line.
Friction parameters help the manufacturer to understand how the finish of a blown film or printed carton can affect the feed and running speed. Surface slip is a critical factor when printing, forming or filling packaging materials on an automatic line.
The slip resistance of a product is characterised by its coefficients of friction (COF):
Static COF = Fs/N
Dynamic COF = Fd/N
where Fs is the maximum static friction force and Fd is the average dynamic friction force. N is the normal force, i.e. the gravitational force acting on the specimen and the test sled.
In practical terms, the static coefficient of friction refers to the force required to cause two stationary surfaces to move, while the dynamic coefficient of friction is the smaller force required to keep the surfaces moving after this initial resistance has been overcome.
These values are expressed as coefficients and have no units of measurement, they are usually given as decimal numbers between 0 and 1.
The Hanatek Friction Tester is applicable to films, paper, cardboard, textiles, leather, labels, printed paper
Additional accessories are included as standard:
Adhesion equipment (Peel Test), which accurately measures the force required to peel adhesive or laminated films, tapes, labels. The test can also be used to measure the strength of the adhesive, bonding, etc.
Tear Test, which will measure and control the strength of the product by zipping it in half.
Seal integrity equipment to test the strength of seams in films and laminates.
UFT can perform tests according to the following standards:
